The Ffestiniog railway was the first narrow gauge railway in the British Isles to carry fare paying passengers, and as such the carriages were designed from scratch. These four-wheel carriages were very low, with knifeboard seating to keep the weight low and as central as possible. The first eight of these carriages were supplied to the Ffestiniog in 1864 by Brown Marshalls; six carriages enclosed and two open “flying Bench” carriages. The model is near-scale and can be built to either 32mm or 45mm gauge, with both axle lengths provided in the kit. The kit is designed to be a quick assembly model when compared to a wooden kit, with little or no painting required depending on the colour choice. The roof of the model is removable to allow access for interior detailing and passengers. The Ffestiniog bug boxes have undergone changes throughout their history. The model is based on the carriages in the preservation era with two colour choices available; the Colonel Stephens’ livery of green and red, and Victorian Brown. The coach is available in either 1st class or 3rd class, the latter having only three opening windows per side compared to 5 opening windows per side. The model dimensions for both classes are as follows: Length (over couplings), 185mm; width, 106mm; height (top of gas lamp), 120mm.
